My first baby started kindergarten on Wednesday.
I have no idea how this happened; I swear she was 3 just yesterday.
I wanted to do a special photo shoot to mark this precious milestone of her life.
So I was thinking of that old tradition of bringing your teacher an apple on the first day of school and thought how cool it would be to do this special first day of school photo shoot in an apple orchard. We have plenty right in our backyard here in Wisconsin.
After I settled on the location, all the props quickly fell into place. I started hunting for an old wooden school desk, which I actually found really quickly on a local garage sale Facebook page for $20. Next, I hunted down an old fashioned apple crate on the same garage sale page and again, found one really quickly for $10. After that I picked up a chalkboard at Walmart for $2 and painted it purple, my baby girl’s favorite color. To continue with the old fashioned look, I asked my mom to cover a couple of hardcover books with paper grocery bags, because I couldn’t remember how to do it! Some crayons, her backpack, and fresh apples from the orchard we were shooting at finished off the look.
We lucked out and got beautiful weather on our scheduled day, and viola–a perfect first day of school photo shoot.
All pictures were taken by the talented Lydia Bjorhus. You can check out her Facebook page here.
Lydia did such a wonderful job capturing all the different sides of our little girl.
She captured Eowyn’s excitement at starting school.
Eowyn’s wise beyond her years maturity and grace.
As well as her contagious silly side.
It was exactly what I had envisioned and then some.
I could not be prouder of our first little girl. She is everything that is good and pure and lovely.
She had a great first week at school, and I have no doubt that she will excel this year.
Mommy loves you sweet girl <3
